I just ordered a new tstat, housing and o-ring. Will I need to apply some sort of sealant to the housing? It isn't really mentioned in the e39 cooling overhaul.
I haven't seen any tutorials, but the thermostat housing is on the front of the engine. Shouldn't be hard to find. On some models it is plastic and on others it is metal. What your suppose to do is, drain the coolant, remove the mechanical cooling fan, unscrew the housing, replace the thermostat, replace the gasket, and put it all back together.
